During the 3rd Youth Achievers Awards presented by the City Government of Quezon City, Philippines to outstanding youth organizations and individuals held October 12, 2005, the U.P. Village Youth Council received two awards:
These awards were given in connection with its programs on its Responsibility of the Youth Program and the Earth Worm Bin Program. The Responsibility of the Youth Program was undertaken in connection with promoting the Charter of Human Responsibilities to youth leaders that saw the nine youth leaders train twenty pre-schoolers in environmental education in the classroom and in the field. One of the hightlights of the program is the field trip to the La Mesa Dam Eco-Project in Quezon City. The program lasted from July to October 2005. The Worm Bin Project is a vermiculture program wherein dry leaves are fed to earth worms. The castings from earthworms then make for organic fertilizers. The award was presented by Quezon City Vice Mayor Herbert M. Bautista. A reprisal of the awarding was held in the barangay last October 15, 2005 wherein Barangay Chairperson Virgilio Ferrer III re-presented the awards to the youth leaders led by Karl Edgar Cupino, Chairperson of the U.P. Village Youth Council and Divine Anceno, Program Coordinator of the Responsibility of the Youth Program. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
