Purge #1

Statement

The Environment : Common Good - Common Responsibility

The cycles of the natural world are central to the imagery of Purge, a body of photographs derived from yard trimmings hauled to curbside by private homeowners for pick up by the city Sanitation Department in Atlanta. The photographs are intimate examinations of these natural materials, now dead and deemed trash. These gatherings force a reconsideration of our notion of beauty, and, at the same time, speak to our relationship to the natural world and our urge to order it in a particular way.
