Difficult conditions in Lebanon in 2007 by Ziad MAJED

The political and economic conditions deteriorated in Lebanon in 2007, and the security situation became very fragile with explosions in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, assassinations (in Beirut) and a 3 months’ war in the northern part of the country between a terrorist group based in a Palestinian refugees camp and the Lebanese army. A Message of Peace - 12 March 2008

These three videos were broadcast on all the Lebanese TV channels in 2007. It is a message of peace, against the civil war, broadcast on the occasion of the Beirut book fair and the publication in Arabic of the book by Samir Kassir on the Lebanese war. The message in the videos is one of refusal of pure chance: we can avoid suffering a new civil war if we understand the reasons of the former war (from 1975 to 1990) and the dynamics of the present.

"Monday" : the youth, activism and responsibility - 19 January 2007, by Ziad MAJED

This VIDEO presents the overview of a young man’s life, a student who hates Mondays, the day when university starts again after festive weekends with the friends. Monday February 14th, the former Lebanese Prime minister Rafiq Hariri is murdered in Beirut. The Lebanese rebel after his murder against the Syrian regime that controls Lebanon with tens of thousands of Syrian soldiers on the Lebanese soil, and with a government formed of pro-Syrian personalities. During weeks, hundreds of thousands of people met every Monday on the Martyrs Square in Beirut, claiming the withdrawal of the Syrian troops and the independence of the country. (...)
