Workshop on Values and Responsibilities

Brief presentation

This methodological tool for debates can be very useful to help groups identifying local issues and define the values that are behind political interests that can impact on specific social groups and communities, with social and environmental consequences. It can help a group to find out who are responsible for creating such problems and who are the responsible for solutions.

It can be used by any group in local communities, schools, companies, with educators, adults, youth and children.
It Is used in the context of the Children and youth Conferences on Environment ‘Let’s Take are of Brazil’ and serves in the schools as a preparation tool for workshops on the values of a consumption society and of a collaborative society, to deepen the concept of responsibility related to the values we want to modify and to who are responsible for these.

Best duration of the workshop: 4 hours.
Including the work in the groups, the debates about the principles of the Charter of Human Responsibilities, the presentation of the video on the Charter and the presentation of responsibilities and local actions = problems and solutions (as indicated in the enclosed powerpoint tool, step by step, for the workshop).

This workshop can go further with a second stage on the elaboration of a collective social, political and environmental project in a school or a community.

This methodology was applied with groups of teachers and students (altogether) in the coastal and historical city of Paraty - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil (May 2009). It resulted in the organization of Conferences Let’s Take Care of Brazil in 3 schools with the writing of the charter of responsibilities and the creation of a Blog “Let’s Take care of Paraty”.
