International Consultation on "Youth Responsibility for (...)

Motivated by Charter of Human Responsibilities (CHR), Youth Activ8 Foundation, a national youth development organization and Indian facilitation Committee of CHR had jointly organized an international consultation on, "Youth Responsibility for Environment, Peace and Sustainable development” On April, 1st, 2008 in Delhi.

Delegates from Colleges, Professional Institutes, and Grassroots Organizations, NGOs, and Multilateral organizations, Private Sector Organizations, Media, Academicians and State Governments from different parts of India and Mrs.Edith Sizoo, international coordinator for Charter of Human Responsibilities Facilitation Committee, Mr Behrouz Safdari, coordinator Iranian Facilitation Committee of the Charter of Human Responsibilities, Mr Mac and Ms.Farmida from Iran and Ms. Sudha Reddy, South Asia Coordinator of the Charter were participated in the dialogue.

The primary aim of this consultation was to organize a focused group discussions with different stakeholders to design the development activities for young people. The presentations by various speakers were based on the themes: Youth building a culture of Peace, Young people response to Environment & Youth & Sustainable development.

The participants in during the open discussions after every presentation felt the need to give young people a platform and encourage them to participate in taking responsibility for the problems and issues of today. In conclusion to this entire consultation the participants suggested to have working groups for continuity, networking and to reach more people. Two working groups were formed:

• Strategic planning and frame work for future action plan

• Alternative policy intervention and dissemination

A simultaneous outcome of this consultation was that member of Indian Parliament (MP) has formed a team to bring ore likeminded MPs for influencing Government policies through ‘MPs for Responsible Governance’ platform
