Nina GREGG

I am an independent consultant, working with non-profit social justice and community based organizations to strengthen their capacity to organize for social change. Since 1993 I have worked with women’s groups, environmental advocates, literacy educators, trade unions, mediators, community organizers, popular educators, universities, professors, philanthropists and social service providers. Since 2002 many of the organizations I have been working with have been focusing their attention on strategic planning for social and economic justice in a challenging US political climate.

I was introduced to the Charter in May 2005 and became US Coordinator of Charter Activities in December 2005. Activities in the US in 2006-2007 include a partnership with Theatre Renaissance for Youth (TRY) Ensemble considering the responsibilities of youth cultural workers and organizers; preparation for the US Social Forum in Atlanta in June 2007; planning for a national conference on Energy & Responsibility in April 2008; and incorporation of the Charter into environmental education curricula.

Before I began consulting full-time I was a university professor, teaching media criticism, communication history, research methods, and feminist theory. My research and publications during these years focused on women organizing for change in their workplaces. I left my academic career in order to work more closely with community organizations and social justice movements.

In my community I am a volunteer co-facilitator of the Blount County (Tennessee) Anti-Racism Task Force, a group working to create an inclusive community through government, schools and faith-based organizations. I am also a member of Women in Black, the international movement of women for peace.

I live with my husband on a small farm in Tennessee in the Southeastern US.
