Sustainable Development and the Charter

We need to develop an organizational foundation for the Campaign for Leadership on Sustainability so that it can fund and promote itself, we can hire adequate staff, reach out to additional organizations and stakeholders, and begin to sponsor our own program activities. We are planning to invite past leaders from the Presidents Council, environmental organizations, sustainable business leaders, etc to join us in this effort. In particular we are interested in working with Earth Day International and with the Earth Charter Summits.

We are planning to work with those sponsoring activities in the US related to the International Decade for Education for Sustainable Develop and to invite them to participate in our Leadership Campaign for Sustainable Development. We would focus in particular on including sustainable development as a part of the regular curriculum in our public schools and on encouraging students to act more responsibly by adopting sustainable practices at home, in the community, and at school.

There are quite a number of Conferences on Sustainable Development that are held annually now in the United States. We would thus like to hold workshops during the Conferences to promote the Leadership Campaign on Sustainability along with training sessions on how to adopt more responsible and sustainable practices.
