Associated Central Topics: The military and responsibility .
Associated General Topics: Culture of peace .

Redefining the role, the education and the ethics of the military forces in a democratic perspective in the context of a world marked by the end of the frontiers and of the nation-state is part of the tasks assumed by representatives of the army from three continents, who coordinated the Meeting of Professionals of the Army for Peace and Democracy, carried out from October 6 to 10, 2005, in Santiago de Chile.

Active and retired representatives of the army of Europe, Asia and America – including former political prisoners of the Chilean, Argentine and Uruguayan armies –, as well as consultants of the current governmental army of Venezuela and Uruguay, along with Latin American academics, have debated about peace and democracy.
The international meeting was convened by the Ecole de la Paix de Grenoble (School of Peace of Grenoble, France) and the FPH (Foundation Charles-Léopold Mayer for the Progress of Human being, Switzerland and France). The Corporation AYUN and the Center of Strategic Studies of ARCIS University, have acted as organizers and hosts of this innovator seminar.
