Objectives

The Charter is being used to define the nature of responsibility that each person has (in their private, public, and professional capacities) in regards to one another and to the entire global human community. Likewise, the initial objective of our work with the Charter in the US is to identify and present the primary work that is and has been done to both define and establish more responsible practices in each of the primary issue areas that we are addressing.

We are beginning to engage the primary actors in discussing, enriching proposals, and providing more effective means for carrying out the responsible actions that are identified. “It will serve as a catalyst to challenge all peoples and associations to consider what it would mean to act responsibly and to make the commitment to do so.” Whether it will be successful “will depend on the political commitment those who support it will put into the diffusion and promotion of the Charter in civil society.”

It is likewise our belief that in the US context, the implementation of the Charter will likely be dependent upon the changes that the people as a whole make in their personal, professional, and civil lives. This is what we are thus wanting to encourage through the promotion and use of the Charter.
