Isis de PALMA

Brazil, Latin America

My name is Isis de Palma. I am an educator, I work on socio-environmental education, communication, culture and citizenship. I have been a member of the Alliance since 1996, when we created the São Paulo Group. In 1997 I participated in the organization of the World Alliance meeting in Bertioga - Brazil.

I am 52 years old, I live in São Paulo, Brazil, and I have a daughter 22 years old.

I have been working for more than 25 years in São Paulo and its region, with projects for citizenship in educational organizations for social, cultural and political projects for democracy. With my great friend Rachel Trajber, we created 15 years a go a small undertaking called Imagens Education.

With my brother Gilberto de Palma and my life partner José Domingos Vasconcelos, I am also the director of an NGO called Ágora Institute in Defense of Voters and Democracy, which provides research and training services, as a service in defense of voters and community organizations. I am also member of the coordination of CIVES - Brazilian Association of Entrepreneurs for Citizenship (one of the institutions in the WSF coordination). In recent years, I have been the facilitator of Drums for Peace of the Alliance.

These last 2 years, I’ve been involved with the National Conference for the Environment for the Brazilian government and also with the co-organization of the Culture Working Group for the WSF.

I am a member of the IPAZ - International Peace Agency. I was in Lille in 2001 and in some Alliance meetings in the world in the past years. In 2005 I have integrated the coordination team of the International Alliance of Journalists and we have created a Brasilian group of the Alliance of Journalists along with Agora’s Institute and in partnership with IPAZ.

As a member of the International Facilitation Committee of the Charter of Human Responsibilities - I am responsible for the publication and dissemination of the Charter of Human Responsibilities in Brazil. In partnership with Carlos Liberona from Chile and Diego Escobar from Colombia, we have created the Charter Committee for South America.

I am very interested in actions for governance, with the circulation of the Proposal Papers of the Alliance for the XXIst century and the Charter in Brazil and the region, and their influence on the public policies.

In 2006 we have started to develop links for new collaborations with Portuguese-language countries.
