My name is Gustavo Marín, I’m 54. I am a Chilean of Quechua origin, a thousand-year-old nation from the Andean highlands. I have four children.
For several years I was leader of the MIR (revolutionary left-wing movement) in the region of the Mapuche people in southern Chile.
I was a political prisoner under Pinochet’s dictatorship and exiled to France as a political refugee. After obtaining French citizenship, I first worked as a telephone-line layer and then studied at the University of Paris 8 where I attained a Doctorate in Political Economics.
I am currently program director at the Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation for the Progress of Humankind and am one of the initiators of the Alliance for a responsible, plural and united world.
I am also a member of the World Social Forum’s International Council.
